Storm
is a combination of Earth, Fire, Water and Wind. Each element by itself can wreak havoc but the combination embodies creation and destruction in one single moment. It is yin and yang combined, the point of perfect balance, two extreme ends bringing together polar opposites. Destroy to rebuild. A storm creates a rebirth, a new direction to begin exploring life again from a fresh perspective. An emotional storm hits most often when there is a stalemate in one's life. The air feels stagnant and stifling. Movement towards a dream comes to an abrupt halt. This lack of movement creates a standstill that no single elemental force can budge. The various elemental allies combine to create the renewing element of Storm. Sort of like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, you're sure to feel yourself thrashed about then set down in a new and unexpected place. A place ready to provide growth, learning and renewal. Life goes through some serious ups and downs. Just as a fire will decimate the land, it does so to create nutrient rich soil for plants to take root and thrive. Always in the aftermath, the opportunity for renewal and balance can be found. This is a perfect example of a chaos theory. I used to let myself get buffeted around, picking myself up and starting again. Now I know that this is the cycle through which all things must travel. It doesn't mean I necessarily like the whiplash... however, I am much calmer about it. No, my only concern now is that when the next storm puts in an appearance, it will wash away and renew. In other words, how long will it take me to shift the chaos within me into balance?
My Shamanic Journey
- RT is sitting cross-legged by the fire, waiting for me to join him. I offer him a pouch of tobacco. He accepts. For a while we just gaze at the dancing flames. I felt a little distracted by some drumming for a bit until I decided to refocus on the fire's dance. Grandfather's gentle voice issues a quiet command, "put your hands into the fire..." Ok. Tentatively, first one. It begins to emanate a blue shimmer from the tips of my fingers to my elbow joint. "Put the other hand in too". Ok. I put the other one in too... Both forearms and hands are glowing incandescent blue. Pretty. I am receiving a healing on my hands from the fire Elementals. I have "healing hands". Light blue skin, these beings went straight to work on my heart, trust issues. Even though I find this event exciting, I remain calm. Cool. For a while I just sit, listening to the distant drumming. I hear it calling me...

I get up and walk over to the circle of Ancient Buffalo Grandfathers behind RT. They stop dancing and watch my approach. They welcome me. The eldest, Two Bears, places a huge shaggy brown buffalo robe across my shoulders. My immediate response is surprise as I exclaim, "WOW!" The drumming stops.
